Thanks Roberto. Yes, this was the point of the article — it’s now a much better place to be if you’re established than as a tool to becoming so. The double read of “last place you want to be,” is that you still go there — but later, after you’ve done the hard work of establishing yourself in the real world. But it’s still useful in that way, to be sure. I know Dotan personally. His rise is a social media success story (had an image re-posted by Kanye). This kind of meteoric, social-driven growth is getting harder and harder to predict or control. But indeed, as you say, one must still have the presence there. I’m a Leica Akademie instructor and, like Dotan, offer workshops and photo training — letting people know about it, keeping contacts and using the feed as a connection to people who enjoy my work is definitely what IG is all about.
