There are a number of factors happening in the world of photography that are having a significant impact:

  1. Content Overload. From AI-driven image-creation, special effects, retouching and workflow enhancements to the continual democratization of content tools, the ability to make content has never been easier.
  2. Fluidity. We’re as far away from a static portfolio as we’ve ever been. Photographers today project success not from a handful of quality images but from an active, even hyperactive, presence in social media, YouTube, NFT communities, Twitter, and real life events.
  3. Beasy Work. Beautiful imagery used to be synonymous with difficult-to-achieve imagery. Today, that’s all changed. Images are as beautiful as ever, if not more so. But getting them has gotten a lot easier. The equipment has gotten easier to obtain, the locations easier to find, and the post processing techniques easier to figure out. Beautiful and easy = beasy!

These are the realities. What they add up to is a new environment for photographers to have to navigate through that has veered away from its own history. There’s more competition, but also more possibility. Higher expectations, but also more tools. It’s a new world…
