Dude. This is just about the most beautiful response to the prototypical knock on Gen-X, that I’ve EVER SEEN. Just so spot on. This article is just another long-winded way of trying to classify Gen-X as lazy self-indulgers. Fight Club was half about nihilism and half about survivalism. That part is always disregarded when revisiting Gen-X. Nobody realizes (or wants to look at) what we dealt with as children. I literally would come home to my single-mother household with a note on the table that said, “Gone to Vegas. Fend for yourselves.” I was 9. Every Gen-X’er knows what I’m talking about. No Millennial could fathom it. Doubt this author had rocks thrown at him for his religion. Was beat up for walking on the wrong side of the street. Watched his older sibling OD. Family friends die of AIDS. Or, like me, Cobain and so many others — got tossed around from mom to dad at too early an age with no blueprint, witnessed domestic violence regularly and got fucked up in the head. But yes, WE were the privileged ones.

Anyway, I’m glad your response resonated with so many people. It definitely did with me and I applaud you for setting the record straight. You get all my claps this month!
