It’s Just Dance

The assignment in Qatar was to travel with a dance company and capture performances happening all over the state for an ongoing event during World Cup, billed: Festival in Motion. Not just one dance company, there were several. And the performances were running concurrently in multiple locations, with a lineup of dances and locations that switched from week 1 to week 2 to week 3. Multiple producers and event organizers were involved and working late into every night making sure everyone knew their van assignments, costume fitting times, personal training and massage therapy time slots. These same people organized the logistics of travel, locations, badges, dinners, per diems, press and everything else that it takes to bring artists and performers together for three weeks.

As the official photographer of the event, from the dance companies’ perspective, I needed to capture each performance in every location, at least once. Logistically, this…
